Encore Park, once home to the Warner Brothers Film Exchange in Downtown Dallas; Texas Theatre, the historic Dallas theatre in Oak Cliff; and Majestic Theatre, the Dallas landmark and last remnant of the city’s Film Row, will debut a three-part film screening series starting September 18.
The series will include short and feature-length films distributed by Warner Brothers in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Films will be screened at the Majestic Theatre, Texas Theatre, and outdoors at the 508 Amphitheater, a component of Encore Park in Dallas’ historic Harwood District.
The screening on September 25 will open with the showing of the 1953 short cartoon Duck Amuck and then show the 1956 classic western film The Searchers. The Searchers was directed by John Ford and starred world-famous actor John Wayne. It will be held at the historic Texas Theatre.
Encore Park’s cornerstone building, 508 Park, was completed in 1930 to serve as Warner Brothers’ film exchange and distribution hub for the region. All of the films selected for the screening series are from Warner Brothers’ collection of films during the three-decade era Warner Brothers operated at 508 Park. The renowned films underscore Dallas’ unique film history.
