Today’s learning spaces are a far cry from the classrooms of yesteryear, with their rows of desks, a single door and venetian blinds on the windows. Countless studies have shown that the design of an educational space has an enormous influence on the effectiveness of the learning that occurs there. In the exhibition A Place for Learning: Designing Educational Spaces, we explore these ideas through an examination of projects designed by half a dozen local architectural firms. In addition to the ideas of adaptive reuse and sustainability, we look at the use of spaces designed specifically for peer learning, transparency as a safety measure, and flexible areas created for collaboration. We also examine how school design capitalizes on a sense of community and can create a framework for students to understand how the world works through STEM education.
The program will be preceded by a reception at 6:00 p.m. with the panel discussion beginning at 6:30 p.m. $10 donation requested at the door. To RSVP, e-mail info@DallasCFA.com
