Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was born on March 27, 1886. We will celebrate his 127th birthday a little early this year by featuring two short films on his work.
Regular or Super uses a gas station Mies designed near Montreal in 1967 as a launching point for an examination of his career. The examination of projects like the Seagram Building and Chicago’s Lakeshore Drive apartments is punctuated by interviews with architects and scholars, including Rem Koolhaas and Elizabeth Diller.
Saved from the Wrecking Ball tells the dramatic story—complete with happy ending—of the collaboration that created one of Mies’ finest masterpieces, Farnsworth House. It culminates with the high-stakes efforts to save it from demolition in 2003.
We will begin the evening with a reception and light refreshments, followed by the screening at 6:30 p.m. As always, we'll stick around for a few minutes afterwards for a discussion of the film.
$10 donation requested at the door. To RSVP, send e-mail to info@DallasCFA.com.
