DCFA and AIA Dallas Announce New Home

We are thrilled to announce that the Dallas Center for Architecture Foundation and our partner organization, AIA Dallas, have selected a location for our next home for the next ten years. The doors will open in August of 2018.

We have selected the mid-century architectural icon Republic Center, located at the northwest corner of St. Paul and Pacific, as that new home. Located in the heart of downtown Dallas, this new storefront location will center DCFA even more fully within the core of the city, elevating us to be much more visible, more pedestrian-friendly, and more engaged with our constituents and the larger community.

The new spaces we have leased are larger, more architecturally significant, and more visible and inviting than our current location. This transformational space will afford us the ability to better meet the demands of the expanding desire for a conversation about the world around us and more effectively reach the public with a diversity of programming—lectures, exhibitions, town hall meetings, and other community outreach events.

The facility itself will be flexible to meet the variety of needs of our ever-changing and dynamic organizations. The street level will take advantage of floor-to-ceiling glass that connects the constant stream of activities and events within the space to the hustle and bustle street life of our city. We will also utilize a large outdoor plaza that allows our events to open onto the street for even higher visibility and community engagement. We have plans to use the space for even more engaging programming—exhibitions, student programs, expansion of our scholarship/fellowship program and much more.

The impending construction of the new Pacific Plaza Park directly across St. Paul Street will make our new home highly visible. The second-largest park in downtown will allow us to program and co-program with other city groups and engage with the public in a myriad of ways. Throughout the area, buildings that have for years been vacant are being redeveloped for residential, retail, and hotel use. We will be at the center of change. It is a vibrant neighborhood, one that Downtown Dallas Inc. calls ”the new epicenter” of downtown Dallas. Within walking distance of many, Republic Center sits a block away from a DART light rail station, near the McKinney Avenue Trolley, and with ample parking at surrounding parking lots and at the building itself.

Our new home gives us the opportunity to dream a bit, to explore possibilities and the “what if’s” with a fresh start full of inventive ideas, thoughts, hopes and aspirations as to what our space might become. An RFQ has been issued to encourage AIA Dallas members and member firms to participate in the design and construction of the new Center.

We look forward to the adventure to come…and are glad you will join us in the process to make our home reflect the quality and excellence that DCFA represents.
