Join AIA Dallas, the Dallas Center for Architecture and UTA’s David Dillon Center for Texas Architecture for a four-part series celebrating the legacy of AIA Dallas Fellows and the Chapter’s contribution to the design and development of Dallas over the decades. Scheduled for Monday gatherings quarterly and moderated by UTA faculty member and The Dallas Morning News architecture critic Mark Lamster, the panel discussions will cover a wide-range of topics on planning and the architecture and design of our community over the years.

At this event, we will celebrate the work of architects who have made a name for themselves while practicing in a smaller firm. Gary Cunningham, FAIA, and Dan Shipley, FAIA, have worked on a variety of projects over the last several decades, garnering praise and scores of awards each.

In addition to looking at several individual projects, topics of the conversation will include:

  • Their professional journeys since both studied architecture at the University of Texas in the late 1970's.
  • What they see as "Texas" modernism and how they work (or don't) in that tradition.
  • The challenges of developing an independent practice.
  • What it means to practice beyond the "spotlight" of the coasts.
  • How Dallas has changed in their eyes: How has it improved and what could be better?
Proceeds benefit the programming of the Dallas Center for Architecture Foundation.
